Dylan and the Bedouin - Lost in Space

If any of you Dylan freaks out there know of an explanation for his genius let's hear it. As if any genius is explainable. When I first heard Joan Baez's Diamonds and Rust, years ago it floored me. Coming across the song tonight it still has the same affect and I am still astounded at it's sway over me. Dylan and Johnny Cash are singing Girl from the North Country and now The Band comes over with The Night they Drove Ole Dixie Down.

And now two kids singing With God on Our Side. Bobbie and Joanie.

Yeah He speaks to us in tunes – Nigunim - and through Genius.

A cold desert night falls on the Bedouin and the Jews.

Years have gone by and little has changed

.
But you know all that.

brave new world

not a very original title
but thats the phrase that comes to mind after
dabbling in facebook
public and private domains if the past
are blurred
while perrenial issues by definition
don't change
like the rzo ve shov
the rising and the setting of the sun
grey skies or blue
shabbat in auschwitz
masked and anonymous
taxes bankruptcy and felafel
local politics and poetry
sand and tar at the beach

rosners domain

at 500 oclock this morning
the morning after standing in the blasing heat for two hours
at the military gathering where my eldest son
recieved his purple beret (marking the end of the first stage of basic training in the givati brigade)
stumbled upon rosners domain
while surfing the haaretz website in english
for a change.
glimpsed the articles and the readers letters rosner brings
discussing israels place vis a vis american jewry.
realised that jewish, american, and israeli identities
simmer and occassionally come to conflict within myself.
this dialogue or trialogue goes on bilingually
sometimes in english
sometimes in hebrew
mostly in the desert
on a small towns fringes
overlooking scenery abraham himself
and hagar saw
herds of sheep and goats pass by our living room window daily
as do the occassional camel.
because the dialogue is ongoing

DRIFTER'S ESCAPE

Album List
"Oh, help me in my weakness,"
I heard the drifter say,
As they carried him from the courtroom
And were taking him away.
"My trip hasn't been a pleasant one
And my time it isn't long,
And I still do not know
What it was that I've done wrong."
Well, the judge, he cast his robe aside,
A tear came to his eye,
"You fail to understand," he said,
"Why must you even try?"
Outside, the crowd was stirring,
You could hear it from the door.
Inside, the judge was stepping down,
While the jury cried for more.
"Oh, stop that cursed jury,"
Cried the attendant and the nurse,
"The trial was bad enough,
But this is ten times worse."
Just then a bolt of lightning
Struck the courthouse out of shape,
And while ev'rybody knelt to pray
The drifter did escape

aint it just like the night

dawn breaks
after hearing a lecture by the president of
a virtual university in mexico
given at m i t
i think about the senseless violence
in gaza and you realise
it comes from compacted ignorance
and poverty and blind hatred
hatred which even if originially aimed
at jews and israelis is turned eventually
inevitably inward and selfwards

dawn breaks
and you realise that
notwithstanding the violence
progress is inevitable and
you cant help but chuckle
at that naive idea
after all weve seen as to
progresses' fruits

its alright ma
were only bleeding

dawn breaks
friday we meet on the bedouin
issue
